BVSC wants to support the Birmingham Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector to celebrate and raise awareness of South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) which runs from 18 July to 17 August every year.

The 2025 theme is ‘Roots to Routes’ – ‘exploring the rich journey of growth, and the evolving connections we make through generations’.

We are looking for local VCFSE sector organisations to  tell their stories about their community and share what they are doing to celebrate.

What is South Asian Heritage Month?

South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) takes place 18 July to 17 August each year.

SAHM seeks to commemorate, mark and celebrate South Asian cultures, histories and communities.

It seeks to understand the diverse heritage and cultures that continue to link the UK with South Asia.

Countries in South Asia are: Afghanistan; Bangladesh; Bhutan; India; Maldives; Nepal; Pakistan; Sri Lanka. A map is available here

More information is available about SAHM here:

Tell the Story About Your Community

BVSC want to support the Birmingham Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise sector to celebrate and raise awareness of South Asian Heritage Month.

Raising awareness of diverse communities across Birmingham is part of our action plan in our VCFSE Sector Mini Race Impact Summit Position Paper and part of our shared ambition working with Birmingham Race Impact Group (BRIG) and partners to make Birmingham an Anti-Racist City.

In 2023 we held an event to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month. For further details and to watch the recording of the online event please visit: www.bvsc.org/vcfse-mris

Last year we shared stories and articles connected to South Asian Heritage Month.

This year we are looking for local Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise sector organisations with connections to South Asia to tell the story about their community, including photos, around aspects of the 2025 theme.

Throughout the month we will share these stories through our website, blog and e-bulletin.

To share your community’s story please complete details here:
