Help for the people of Ukraine

BVSC stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and along with our partners across Birmingham we will be doing all we can to help and support the humanitarian crisis.

We have collated some links to useful sources of information that may help you in supporting people of Ukraine.

What you can do

Making a donation

Many people in Birmingham want to do whatever they can to help, and one way is to donate.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is a coalition of 15 leading UK charities, has launched a collective appeal to provide emergency aid and rapid relief to civilians suffering during the conflict.

Leaders from The Polish Expats Association (PEA) in Birmingham, together with a partnership of community leaders (CEE) have set up a GoFundMe page to help refugees fleeing Ukraine gofund.me/7b070324

Homes for Ukraine scheme

You can also help by providing accommodation to those fleeing the war in Ukraine. Find out more about the government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme, which opened on 18 March.

RESET are the organisation leading on the design of the Homes for Ukraine scheme, and VCSEP understand that they require support in regards to appointing a head of safeguarding to support the team and development of the programme.

Accessing Support, Information and Advice

Drop-in advice is always available at the Refugee and Migrant Centre with locations in Birmingham, Wolverhampton or Walsall. Contact information for all locations is available from their website, link above.

Updated information about Government announcements on Ukraine are available via West Midlands Strategic Migration Partnership UK.

Relate Birmingham are offering free phone chats for Ukrainians in England & Wales with loved ones at the centre of the current crisis. Bookings can be made via Relate's website.

Funding

Engage for Ukraine Community Grants Scheme
In support of the Government’s response to the Ukraine crisis and offer to resettle Ukrainians families in the UK, Birmingham City Council and BVSC have launched (17 August 2022) a new community grants fund to voluntary, community and social enterprise sector groups and organisations that are supporting the resettlement process across the City.

Ukranian Institute London lists various ways you can support the humanitarian crisis.

West Midlands Multibank Reaches One Million Milestone to Help Families in Need

One million essential items have been distributed to families in need across the region through the West Midlands Multibank since the project was launched just over a year ago. The milestone was celebrated by BVSC, who oversee the West Midlands Multibank alongside funders Comic Relief and Sport Relief. The West Midlands Multibank receives donations from businesses such as Amazon to distribute to a network of over 200 community partners who then distribute them to families most in need.
CYP Preventative and Early Mental & Emotional Help - External Stakeholders Engagement

Early Help Mental Health Services provide voluntary, preventative support for children, young people, and families facing challenges to prevent future escalations into secondary care mental health services. The way our young people want to access support, and their needs have changed a lot over the last 10 years. We are reviewing our services to ensure we deliver them effectively and to check if our current delivery model meeting patient needs.
Letters, Promises and Belonging: The Children Of Windrush
Birmingham Windrush Service of Commemoration, Thanksgiving and Celebration

The service will include contributions from clergy, community leaders, and the Birmingham Windrush Celebration Legacy Choir.

Crisis and Resilience Fund

Help for Birmingham households experiencing financial hardship is being developed as part of Birmingham’s Crisis and Resilience Fund (previously known as Household Support Fund/ Hardship Grant Community Fund) programme.
