Community Development Community Development - an overview The Community Development Practice Hub is a resource provided by BVSC and an advisory board of Community Development practitioners for people and organisations who ‘work with’ people in Birmingham so that they can take collective action to make changes to things that are important to them and their communities. It aims to connect, inspire and upskill community development practitioners across Birmingham. Community Assets The Community Development Practice Hub takes an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. Community Assets include the skills, knowledge and interests of individuals, and the many resources of the voluntary, community and business sectors locally. As such Community Assets not only include ‘physical assets’ such as Buildings and Land (e.g. also sometimes referred to alone as ‘Community Assets’!) but also the resources of sectors, organisations, communities and individuals. Community Leadership The Community Leadership Training Programme was developed in Birmingham as a collaboration between BVSC and Birmingham City Council and designed to develop confident, capable and effective leaders of change and development at the local community level and those representing communities of interest. Initially delivered through face-to-face and online methods of delivery, it's now available as an e-learning programme. Co-production There is no one definition of Co-production that everyone agrees on, as approaches to it are constantly developing and changing. The term “co-production” will mean different things to different people, but it is vital to listen and be responsive to the voices of people with lived experience in the design, delivery and review of systems and services for people experiencing multiple disadvantage. BVSC Multiple Disadvantage Team works on the Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM) project transforming services and systems for people facing multiple disadvantage. They support organisations to engage through Co-production , a Co-production Coalition and a Trauma Informed Framework.
