New Living Wage Rates & Living Wage Week 2024 New Living Wage Rates On 23 October the Living Wage Foundation announced new Living Wage rates for 2024 – 2025. These are now £12.60 across the UK and £13.85 in London. Living Wage Employers now have six months to implement them by 1 May 2025. What is the Real Living Wage? The Real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate based on the cost of living. It is independently calculated based on what employees and their families need to live. This is why it’s higher than the government minimum wage, rebranded as the ‘National Living Wage’. Employers voluntarily choose to pay it – changing people’s lives right now. It applies to all workers over 18 – recognising that young people have the same living costs as everyone else. Living Wage Employers The Real Living Wage is paid by over 15,000 UK organisations and businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs - like the weekly shop, or a surprise trip to the dentist. Over 460,000 employees have received a pay rise as a result of the Living Wage campaign and the campaign enjoys cross-party support. A broad range of employers are accredited with the Foundation including half of the FTSE 100 and big household names as well as thousands of SMEs. Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector organisations can also become Living Wage Employers, and there are currently over 70 VCFSE organisations signed up across Birmingham City alone. BVSC is also a Living Wage Employer and has been supported by the Barrow Cadbury Trust and partners to promote Birmingham as a Living Wage City. Being a Living Wage Employer is particularly important given low pay in the sector (1 in 7 being paid less than a Living Wage), despite the sector’s work towards tackling poverty and the rising cost of living. Living Wage Week 2024 Living Wage Week takes place 4 – 10 November 2024 and is a great opportunity to promote the Living Wage. There are loads of ways you can get involved in the Week.
