Trustees’ Week 2024 takes place from 4-8 November. It is a time for us to come together to celebrate the achievements of nearly one million trustees across the UK. Throughout Trustees’ Week you’ll have the chance to connect with other trustees to share your experiences or find out how to become a trustee. You’ll also be able to develop your skills through a wide range of events, training and guidance.

This year Trustees' Week will focus on trustee recruitment and retention.

Do you need help to recruit board members?

According to the Charity Commission’s Breath of Fresh Air report, anywhere between one in three and one in two charities have a trustee vacancy.

If you have vacancies that you're struggling to fill, BVSC can help in the following ways:

  • BVSC Community Noticeboard:
Post your vacant positions on BVSC's Community Noticeboard. We've added a new filter to make it easier for individuals to distinguish this kind of role from general volunteering opportunities.  From 4 November, we'll be regularly promoting these roles through both our weekly e-bulletin and social media channels, including our Linked-in page.  Submit your trustee board vacancies by completing this simple form. You'll be notified as soon as the post goes live.

  • Recruitment Masterclass:
BVSC is currently running a three-part Recruitment Masterclass with our partner, Prospectus, a specialist third sector recruitment consultancy.  Each online session lasts one hour, the second in the series takes place on Monday 4 November.  Although primarily aimed at recruiting staff, it's totally relevant to trustee recruitment and you'll pick up lots of great tips around how to write great role descriptions and how to attract the right candidates.  Don't worry if you missed Session One as you can catch up online.

  • Information and resources:
BVSC has collated a variety of resources to help you enact Birmingham’s Vision for Volunteering and find guidance on attracting, recruiting, involving and supporting volunteers in ways that celebrate difference, enable collaboration and show appreciation.
