C-19 Update from Dr Justin Varney

On Thursday 29 July Birmingham's Director of Public Health, Dr Justin Varney, gave an online update on the C-19 situation specifically focussing on questions and concerns raised by the voluntary and community sector. The session was recorded and is now available to view.

Public Health Q&A sessions 

Throughout February 2021 there will be five online Q&A sessions which will allow the public to ask any questions they may have about the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination. This is for citizens across Birmingham as well as assets. Please help to promote this.  On the panel there will be the Birmingham & Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group, local representatives and Councillor Paulette Hamilton.

Webinar: Q&A Covid-19  Vaccine - Bahu Trust

Vaccination Q&A webinar to the Muslim community delivered by Bahu Trust, Took place on Monday 18th January, where speakers discussed the vaccination from a medical, social and religious perspective. Panellists included Dr Adeel Riaz - Covid GP, Dr Samira Afzal - Infectious Disease Specialist, Shaykh Dr Ather Hussan - Imam/Scholar and Salma Yaqoob, Human Rights Campaigner. The West Midlands Mayor Andy Street Hosts Vaccination Roundtable

On Monday 1st February, the West Midlands Combined Authority hosted a roundtable for our local faith leaders, community groups and anyone with a question about the vaccine, offering insight and support around Covid-19 vaccination communication. Mayor Andy Street was joined by a panel of experts, including representatives from the NHS and Public Health England, who shared the latest update on the vaccination roll-out in the West Midlands and share the facts about the vaccine. There was also an opportunity for attendees to ask questions in a live Q&A.

Kidney Care UK - Question Time: Covid-19 Vaccination, Supporting the BAME Communities

On 9th February, a panel of experts addressed fact, fiction and opinion. As part of our webinar series on Covid-19 and kidney patients, Kidney Care UK, the Renal Association and the British Renal Society, supported by Gift of Living Donation (GOLD) and the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT), the webinar was provided for patients, carers and healthcare professionals with a particular focus on key questions asked by people from the BAME community.

Panel members included Dr Huzaifa Adamali, Consultant Respiratory Medicine; Dr Javeed Ahmed, Consultant Virologist; Dr Adnan Sharif, Consultant Nephrologist; Dr Phil Bright, Consultant, Clinical Immunology; Dr Valentine Ngwa, Consultant Physician; Mufti Muhammed Zubair Butt, Islamic Scholar and Muslim Chaplain; and Reverend Eve Pitts, Vicar, Holy Trinity Church.

On Thursday 11th February, TNHS Race & Health Observatory hosted a Covid-19 & the vaccine seminar specifically aimed towards people from Black Asian and Minority Ethnic groups.

COVID-19 Vaccination Q&A, answering questions on vaccination and fertility
