We’re interested in hearing from young people with experience of being supported to stay safe to join our Young Scrutineers Programme.

Help improve services, share your views, and make a difference for other young people.

What will you do?

Provide a young person’s perspective on safeguarding issues and initiatives.
Support our Independent Scrutineer in evaluating how organisations work together to safeguard children in Birmingham.
Assist in co-designing and participating in activities and events.
Help create engaging content for social media platforms and other resources for those working with children.
Attend various meetings and contribute your ideas on how to keep children safe from harm and improve services.

Are you between 13-21 years and live in Birmingham?
Are you able to make at least 2 sessions per month in the late afternoon/early evening?
Are you passionate about keeping children and young people safe?
Can you work in a team?
Are you reliable and willing to learn new skills?
Have you been supported by services? This is not essential.

West Midlands Multibank Reaches One Million Milestone to Help Families in Need

One million essential items have been distributed to families in need across the region through the West Midlands Multibank since the project was launched just over a year ago. The milestone was celebrated by BVSC, who oversee the West Midlands Multibank alongside funders Comic Relief and Sport Relief. The West Midlands Multibank receives donations from businesses such as Amazon to distribute to a network of over 200 community partners who then distribute them to families most in need.
CYP Preventative and Early Mental & Emotional Help - External Stakeholders Engagement

Early Help Mental Health Services provide voluntary, preventative support for children, young people, and families facing challenges to prevent future escalations into secondary care mental health services. The way our young people want to access support, and their needs have changed a lot over the last 10 years. We are reviewing our services to ensure we deliver them effectively and to check if our current delivery model meeting patient needs.

Green Care for You: a fortnight of simple nature activities for unpaid carers

Unpaid carers are invited to join a free fortnight of simple gardening and nature activities this summer from Carers UK and Thrive. Green Care for You is a gentle two-week programme designed to help unpaid carers, looking after a family member or friend who is older, disabled or has a long-term health condition, enjoy the benefits of gardening and nature in a way that fits around their caring role.

Birmingham Hospice’s retail collaboration with Birmingham City University

Sandwell Advocacy’s Sandwell Together is a telephone befriending service supporting local people facing loneliness and isolation through meaningful connection. We are looking for people 18years old or over, with kindness, empathy and good listening skills who would like to make a real difference to the lives of others, for a commitment of six months.

Digital Cafés are part of our mission to make digital life easier and help people across Birmingham feel more confident online. They bring together community partners and volunteers to offer one-to-one support with everyday technology, such as smartphones, tablets, email, video calls, and online services, all in familiar local spaces.
Long Covid Support - In-Person Peer Support Group

Due to the decommissioning of NHS Long Covid services across Birmingham, the charity is setting up a monthly in-person peer support group (IPPS) to help and support those who are living with Long Covid, age 16+ and carers of a loved one living with Long Covid.
