Reading volunteers needed to support local primary schools Schoolreaders volunteers visit their matched school weekly for an hour for a full academic year (although holidays can be taken in this time) where they listen to children read individually to help improve their reading and comprehension skills. Many of the children that our volunteers listen to do not have anyone to read to outside of the classroom and as reading for pleasure is one of the most significant factors in improving a child's life chances, reading support at an early age can make a huge difference to these children. Our volunteers need to have good written and spoken English, be over 18 and be willing to have a DBS check carried out (this is carried out by the school and at no cost to the volunteer) but no further skills or prior experience are required. We are unable to reimburse any travel expenses but we would match you with a school that you would be happy to travel to by whatever mode of transport you chose. https://www.schoolreaders.org/volunteer-application-form Manage Cookie Preferences
